Claudia's Corner of the Country

My blog's focus started out as an exercise to help me learn to live with the deep grief I was experiencing after my daughter's unexpected death. Looking back on the blog I truly hope some of the posts have touched other people's hearts who are living with the heartbreak of losing someone they love. Many years later the focus shifted to include things that I find interesting or compelled to share but I have never lost the main focus of the blog--GRIEF. (updated Jan 2025)

Love is forever

Love is forever

Forever together

Forever together
Jackson & Laura

Laura & Sierra

Laura & Sierra
Girlfriends forever
Someone I love has
gone away and life
is not the same.

The greatest gift you
can give is just to
speak her name.

I need to hear
the stories and the
tales of days gone past.

I need for you
to understand
these memories
must last.

We’ll never make
more memories
since Laura
is no longer here.

So when you say her
name to me it is
music to my ear.

15 years have passed & this is still true

15 years have passed & this is still true
Grief is not something to cover up and hide, but rather acknowledge the existence of it, wear it as a badge of honor to the loved one you lost, and feel no shame. We only grieve for those we love and love lasts a life time.

Serenity
Last Mother's Day Gift (2008) from my Tootie Babe. We will love you always and keep your memory alive in our hearts.

Mother

You are my mother
You are my friend
I turn to you
When I feel like life's
coming to an end
I hope you will stand
by my side
When I win
Or when I lose
to tell me there's
a next time
And there's always room
to improve
I hold you dear to my heart
And love you in a way
that's hard for me to show
So when I yell at you
And tell you to leave
me alone
I don't really mean it
I just get so angry
And take it all out
on you
If I were ever to
loose you
I wouldn't know what
to do with my life
I would lose more
then just a mother
I would lose my
best friend too
And forever there
would be a place
in my heart
that nobody else
could fulfill

Laura

Think of Laura by Christopher Cross

Hey Laura, Hey Laura

Every once in a while

I'd see her smile

And she'd turn my day around

A girl with those eyes

could stare through the lies

And see what your heart was saying

Think of Laura

but laugh, don't cry

I know she'd want it that way

A friend of a friend, a friend to the end

That's the kind of girl she was

Taken away so young

Taken away without a warning

Think of Laura

but laugh, don't cry

I know she'd want it that way

When you think of Laura,

laugh don't cry I know she'd want it that way

I know you and you're here

In every day we live

I know her and she's here

I could feel her when I sing

Hey Laura, where are you now?

Are you far away from here?

I don't think so, I think you're here

Taking our tears away

Think of Laura but laugh, don't cry

I know she'd want it that way

When you think of Laura,

laugh don't cry I know she'd want it that way

Hey Laura, hey Laura

I know, she wants it that way

Hey Laura, hey Laura

I know you want it that way

Hey Laura

When those we love go away, they never really leave us, They are with us now, wherever we are. Those whom we have cherished, live on forever. For love wraps itself around the heart.

Tribute to our daughter

Angel Day: Nov. 8 2008 Go with God and be happy in heaven. Laura lived too short of time on this planet.

If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together...there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart...I'll always be with you."

In the end, just three things matter:
How well we have lived
How well we have loved
How well we have learned to let go

My first blog's, Claudia's Corner of the Country, focus started out helping me learn to live with my intense grief. Fifteen years later the focus has shifted to include a little of this and a little of that. Every time I open the site, my heart flutters when I see my daughter's beautiful smile. My second blog, Zany Zoey focuses on animals, mainly dogs, just for fun.
