Oreo's quilt

I haven't done any sewing in a few months. To get me started again I thought I would use some stash and create a quilt for Oreo's crate. Oreo is my neighbor's new dog and he is the most precious pup. He already recognizes my voice and he gets so excited when he sees me (I get happy when I see him too!).

 

Anyway, the quilt looks cute but it turned out to be my worst project! My corners are all wrong; my quilting isn't the nicest; I tried sewing his name on the quilt numerous times and it just wouldn't come out satisfactorily so I ripped it out only about a dozen times. I think I spent more time tearing out stitches than the actual time to put the quilt together! I would have expected this type of workmanship on my first quilt!

 

Finally, I faced reality and stopped pulling out stitches and accepted the fact that sometimes nothing goes right with a project. I consoled myself by remembering Oreo is a canine. I don't think he is going to mind if the mitered corners aren't exact or that the back of the quilt isn't as nice as the front.

 

 I hope I will be able to snap a picture of Oreo resting on his quilt. If so, you will see it posted.

Senator Schumer is calling on the U.S. Air Force to reunite Sergeant Rex, an extraordinary military working dog, with his former partner, Iraq War veteran, Corporal Megan Leavey, USMC. Megan Leavey worked with Sergeant Rex to hunt down and disarm improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Iraq to keep American soldiers safe. Both were injured in an IED blast in 2006, and the pair spent the next year recovering together from their injuries. Leavey has yet to be approved for her adoption request and is still working through the military bureaucracy to finalize the adoption.


Sign the petition now if you agree with Senator Schumer that these two American heroes should be reunited with all due speed.

Who is afraid of thunder?

Jackson may be a tough looking dog but when it comes to thunder he turns into a scared kitty,  He figured out how to open the shower doors to hide in the bath tub.

Jackson update

Jackson is looking a bit tired here

but his parents say he is doing really well. He pulled

through his surgery like a trooper.

Glad to hear it, Jack.  We love you!

Louie was feeling sorry for Jackson, so he volunteered to wear Jack's lampshade for a while.  Jackson is still feeling some pain, but he is eating and barking.

Birthday wishes to Laura from King

Tribute to a fun-loving, fabulous lab

Our beloved Grady died on Monday. She was 14 years and 7 months old, her legs were failing, and she was losing her engaged view of the world. We had the privilege of letting her go in peace, surrounded by love. Grady gave structure to my life when everything else had changed. From her I learned boundless enthusiasm, joie de vivre, and patience. I learned that walking in the rain is not a bad thing, that snow gives us a good excuse to run in circles, that there’s no reason to walk around a puddle rather than through the middle. I learned that it’s never too early or too late for a trip outside. We went through peaks and valleys side by side. Her loyalty and love never wavered. Those who are very, very lucky will have the dog of a lifetime. Grady was mine. (NS--Grady's proud mom)

There will never be another Grady. She was a very special dog.

We are glad you were in our lives.

We will truly miss you.

A wonderful explanation

A sick man turned to his doctor as he was preparing to leave the examination room and said, "Doctor, I am afraid to die. Tell me what lies on the other side."

Very quietly, the doctor said, "I don't know."

"You don't know? You're, a Christian man, and you don't know what's on the other side?"

The doctor was holding the handle of the door; on the other side came a sound of scratching and whining, and as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room and leaped on him with an eager show of gladness. Turning to the patient, the doctor said, "Did you notice my dog? He's never been in this room before. He didn't know what was inside. He knew nothing except that his master was here. When the door opened, he sprang in without fear. I know little of what is on the other side of death, but I do know one thing...

Loveable Louie knows how to get treated like a prince! Here he is soaking up the sun while relaxing on a float in the pool."Woof, woof, anyone want to play Marco Polo? Jackson, you don't know what you are missing. Don't be afraid, just jump in and have some fun! Mom's here to save you in case the doggie paddle doesn't come naturally to you."

Nothing can get me!

Jackson is not waiting around to see what all the rumbling is about or where his brother is. As soon as he hears thunder it is every dog for himself and he heads for safety. He has decided the bathtub is good for one thing only and it is certainly is not for taking a bath! The sliding glass door is no challenge for him--that is why he has front paws.

A very cute interpretation of a Dalmatian

I can't remember how old Laura was when I made her the Dalmatian costume. I think she was around 13 or 14 years old. She wanted to be a dog for Halloween so I made her the costume, which was one of the easiest from our Halloween collection. We always had fun imagining and creating costumes. I don't think Laura ever had a store bought costume until she became an adult, which wasn't an easy task for me since I was an amateur seamstress learning on the job. Sierra was so intent on staying close to Laura because she was hoping Laura was going to share the dog bone with her!

Both of my children loved dressing up as characters and they didn't wait for Halloween to come around. My son was always dressed as different characters when he was young. He went from superheros to wrestlers to cowboys and back. Superman and Hulk Hogan was the most common outfits.
