It is almost two and a half years since Laura moved to Heaven. I am missing her today as much as the day she left. Although the two years have passed, it seems to me like she left just a short time ago. I have to make myself conscious of the fact that people don’t feel the time like I do.
I started a few activities after her death to help me climb out of that deep, dark hole I was absorbed in. I am still participating in most of the activities to help me maintain my sanity. I still read from Healing After Loss, by Martha Whitmore Hickman. I would like to share a mediation reading from the book with you.
Faith is the centerpiece of a connected life. It allows us to live by the grace of invisible strands. It is a belief in a wisdom superior to our own. Faith becomes a teacher in the absence of fact. –Terry Tempest Williams
We would like to know, wouldn’t we? Or think we would. Experiences like the loss of a loved one fill our lives with questions about the nature of life beyond death. What is the nature of God? What will be our experience of God—and our loved one—after we ourselves die?
Of course these are unanswerable questions. But we have to do something with our longing to know, with our yearning to continue a relationship with our loved one.
Blessed are those for whom faith can absorb the shock of not knowing, who can trust in “a wisdom superior to our own,” in “the grace of invisible strands.”
Perhaps all of us, whatever our faith tradition, can extend our sense of trust into the unknown world. Perhaps it seems a risk. But it may help us profoundly. And—unlike some risks—it won’t do us any harm!
My blog's focus started out as an exercise to help me learn to live with the deep grief I was experiencing after my daughter's unexpected death. Looking back on the blog I truly hope some of the posts have touched other people's hearts who are living with the heartbreak of losing someone they love. Many years later the focus shifted to include things that I find interesting or compelled to share but I have never lost the main focus of the blog--GRIEF. (updated Jan 2025)

What's the difference?
The Proper King's English
English majors and wordsmiths will appreciate
this old and fading art of writing:
Capitalization
In this world of hi-tech, I have noticed that many
who text message and email have forgotten the
"art" of capitalization. Those of you who fall into
this category, please take note of the
following statement below:
Capitalization is the difference between
Helping your Uncle Jack off a horse.
and
Helping your uncle jack off a horse.
Punctuation
Look what a comma can do.
"Let's eat, Grandma!"
and
"Let's eat Grandma!"

Two Traveling Angels.......
Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night
in the home of a Wealthy family.
The family was rude and refused to let the
angels stay in the Mansion's' guest room.
Instead the angels were given a small
space in the cold basement.
As they made their bed on the hard floor,
the older angel saw a hole in the
wall and repaired it.
When the younger angel asked why, the older
angel replied, "Things aren't always what they seem"
The next night the pair came to rest at the house of
a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife.
After sharing what little food they had the
couple let the angels sleep in their bed where
they could have a good night's rest.
When the sun came up the next morning
the angels found the farmer and his wife in tears.
Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole income,
lay dead in the field.
The younger angel was infuriated and asked the
older angel how could you have let this happen?
The first man had everything, yet you helped him,
she accused. The second family had little but was
willing to share everything, and you let the cow die.
"Things aren't always what they seem," the older angel replied.
"When we stayed in the basement of the mansion,
I noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the wall.
Since the owner was so obsessed with greed
and unwilling to share his good fortune,
I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it."
"Then last night as we slept in the farmers bed,
the angel of death came for his wife
I gave him the cow instead.
Things aren't always what they seem."
Sometimes that is exactly what happens
when things don't turn out the way they should.
If you have faith, you just need to trust that
every out come is always to your advantage.
You just might not know it until some time later...
I will NEVER see an advantage for Laura's death!
