New report by CDC lists foods most associated with foodborne illness

Published in the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, the numbers show that 1,034 foodborne disease outbreaks caused 23,152 cases of illness, 1,276 hospitalizations, and 22 deaths. In about 45 percent of the outbreaks the foodborne agent responsible for the outbreak was confirmed by state health officials. Among outbreaks with known pathogens, norovirus was the most common agent, followed by salmonella.
