Still September

Last night I had dinner with another one of my best girlfriends. I haven't seen her in a while. Still a few days left in September and one more girlfriend to catch up with. Not sure if that will happen though.

We went to a nearby restaurant that I haven't been to. My friend was well known by the staff; she eats out most nights. The food was good. As long as my meal is better than what I cook I am okay with it. The only thing I didn't like was the paper napkins. I know, I sound like a snob. I can't believe I was bothered by the lack of a cloth napkin but I do expect one when I am having dinner in a restaurant. On hindsight, I should have mentioned it to them since the establishment is new in the town.

Off to work now....

Home-made greenhouse

Dave is constructing a greenhouse to protect his tropical plants from the winter.
We have been helping him (not sure if he thinks this is a good idea but that
doesn't stop us from volunteering).
The only conflict is that son & father both want to be foreman!
I am an apprentice so I take orders from whoever is issuing them.

Dave quickly  acquainted me with the screw drill
(or whatever you call the heavy duty, yellow,
battery-operated cool tool).

Progress...but a lot to do

So much measuring...just like creating a quilt.
Measure twice and cut once!

More to come

Catching up...

September has turned out to be "girlfriend" month! I enjoyed all my outings with my friends. It is great to catch up with everyone to see what has changed in their lives. All good news this month!

Jersey Strong...

Oreo's quilt

Sept 2013

I haven't done any sewing in a few months. To get me started again I thought I would use some stash and create a quilt for Oreo's crate. Oreo is my neighbor's new dog and he is the most precious pup. He already recognizes my voice and he gets so excited when he sees me (I get happy when I see him too!).

Anyway, the quilt looks cute but it turned out to be my worst project! My corners are all wrong; my quilting isn't the nicest; I tried sewing his name on the quilt numerous times and it just wouldn't come out satisfactorily so I ripped it out only about a dozen times. I think I spent more time tearing out stitches than the actual time to put the quilt together! I would have expected this type of workmanship on my first quilt!

Finally, I faced reality and stopped pulling out stitches and accepted the fact that sometimes nothing goes right with a project. I consoled myself by remembering Oreo is a canine. I don't think he is going to mind if the mitered corners aren't exact or that the back of the quilt isn't as nice as the front.

I hope I will be able to snap a picture of Oreo resting on his quilt. If so, you will see it posted.

September 11

No words needed; just time to reflect on all those who were lost and their grieving families.

Our little visitor

This butterfly sat outside our patio door for us to watch her. She didn't fly away for a while. Shawn and Kyla got such a kick out of her.  So did I!

I just finished reading SUMMER HOUSE by Nancy Thayer. There was a great and truthful statement in the book that I want to share--

"...I think all families are a mess. But look at it this way. If the Good Lord hadn't made us all so cantankerous and feeble, we wouldn't have anything to do and He wouldn't have anything to laugh at."
